The above is a guidebook to the French Riviera Pass. It includes French, English, Italian, and German translations. I could use this in an FSL class to teach about travel and leisure activities. I would get students to browse through it and identify the different elements in a tour guide (the different categories of things you could do in a city, such as music, food, historic sites, etc.). I would also get them to find a certain number of key words needed in a tour guide and to discover how to say them in French using the translation. After more scaffolding, we could do a follow up project where students choose another area of France and create a tour guide for it using the vocabulary they found.
Browsing the guide also provides cultural information since students can see the different sites and ways of recording basic information in France (telephone numbers, addresses, etc.).
